Details

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and drive Samburu Game Reserve

Upon arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be greeted by our safari driver-guide. Following a brief safari orientation, you will depart for Samburu Game Reserve, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon will be spent on game drives within the Reserve.
Samburu National Reserve, renowned for being one of the areas where conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, gained fame through the bestselling book and award-winning movie “Born Free”. Located along the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River in Kenya’s arid northern region, the Reserve is adjacent to several Samburu tribe communities, known for their remote, pastoral, and nomadic lifestyle.
The Ewaso Ngiro River, with its abundant shade, attracts a variety of wildlife. Giraffes, large herds of elephants, buffalos, gerenuks, gazelles, waterbucks, and zebras (including the endangered Grevy’s zebra) migrate from the surrounding savannah plains to the river in search of water. Predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs are also commonly sighted due to the sparse grass cover. The Reserve offers a unique opportunity to observe wildlife endemic to this dry northern region of Kenya, including the long-necked gerenuks, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, and Beisa Oryxes. Additionally, the elusive Kenya leopard is often seen, particularly during the evening hours.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu Game Reserve

Begin the day with breakfast at the camp or lodge before embarking on a full-day game drive, complete with picnic lunch boxes. Alternatively, you can opt for morning and afternoon game drives with a hot lunch served at the camp or lodge in between.

Renowned as the site where a princess became the Queen of England at Treetops Lodge, Aberdares is a land of fortune and diversity. The park is named after Lord Aberdares, a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society. Situated in the central highlands, west of Mount Kenya and approximately 160 km from Nairobi, the foothills of Aberdares National Park are covered with large trees that gradually transition to bamboo forests as you ascend.

Above 3,000 meters, the landscape shifts to alpine moorland, eventually leading to grasslands adorned with giant lobelias, offering a striking contrast. Explore this land of fortune – who knows, you might feel like royalty!

Attractions: The park boasts significant physical attractions, including Lesatima and Kinangop peaks, numerous waterfalls, Twin Elephant Hills, Table Mountains, and diverse wildlife such as black rhinos, elephants, buffalos, giant forest hogs, lions, leopards, baboons, black-and-white colobus, and syke monkeys.
