Details

DAYS 1 & 2

Upon your arrival at Victoria Falls, you will be transferred to the Matetsi River Lodge, situated along the Zambezi River’s banks. Nestled within a 50,000-hectare private game reserve and boasting 15 km of exclusive river frontage, Matetsi stands as the pinnacle of luxury in Victoria Falls. The legendary Victoria Falls, situated just 40km downstream, is a sight to behold. Victoria Falls, recognized as the world’s widest water curtain, spans over a kilometer in width and plunges more than 113 meters into the river below. This magnificent natural wonder, often referred to as the “Smoke that Thunders,” can be explored on foot, by helicopter, or even microlight, offering unique perspectives. The experience is further enhanced by sunset cruises that capture the enchanting beauty of the falls under the glow of Africa’s mesmerizing sunsets.

DAYS 3, 4 & 5

Zarafa Camp, Botswana’s inaugural Relais & Chateaux property established by renowned National Geographic filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, offers an intimate experience with just four suites. Situated on the expansive grassland plains with views overlooking the Zibadianja Lagoon, the origin of the Savute Channel, the camp exudes a sense of traditional safari elegance through its use of rich railway sleeper teak decking and dark leather, reminiscent of the classic tented safari atmosphere.

Guests are invited to partake in a variety of activities including game drives, walking safaris, or a serene sunset cruise aboard a “pontoon” boat. For those seeking relaxation, a siesta in a viewing hide, positioned in stunning, secluded settings, is highly recommended. The camp is home to an impressive array of wildlife, including resident lion prides, other large felines, and extensive herds of elephants.

DAYS 6, 7 & 8

Travel by air to Mombo Camp, celebrated within safari communities as “the Place of Plenty.” Renowned for its substantial populations of plains game and predators, Mombo is acclaimed as one of Africa’s premier game-viewing locations.

In 2018, Mombo Camp underwent a rebuild, enhancing its luxury offerings. The camp now features eight expansive tents, each providing broad views of a wildlife-rich floodplain. The design of each tent, incorporating a lounge, a separate bedroom, and a bathroom, along with both indoor and outdoor showers and a bathtub adorned with copper and brass fixtures, exemplifies Wilderness Safaris’ commitment to sustainable luxury.

RECOMMENDED EXTENSION

Step into a landscape of stark beauty, a secluded segment of Africa characterized by such profound silence that the sound of blood flowing through your ears becomes audible. This describes the Makgadikgadi Pans, a location that might initially prompt one to question their visit, yet ultimately leaves a lasting impression on the soul.

The white expanses, remnants of an ancient lake, play host to some of the Kalahari Desert’s most engaging wildlife, including its meerkats and brown hyenas. Embark on adventures across these boundless terrains on a quad bike, walk alongside the continent’s earliest inhabitants, the San Bushmen hunter-gatherers, and achieve a sense of unity with the cosmos following an overnight stay on the pans. This experience stands out as one of Africa’s most unforgettable.
