Day 1: Nairobi | Amboseli
You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel and driven to Amboseli National Park, passing through the Athi Plains, which were once home to free-roaming Burchell’s zebras, Masai giraffes, and smaller herbivores. Due to human encroachment, wildlife is now mostly found within game parks. You’ll arrive at your camp or lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park at the base of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft).
In the late afternoon, you may witness a lion or cheetah making a kill, offering excellent photography opportunities with Mount Kilimanjaro as a stunning backdrop. You will then proceed to Lake Amboseli, a wide salt pan with permanent swamps teeming with wildlife, including a high concentration of elephants, rhinos, buffalos, Burchell’s zebras, elands, Masai giraffes, and various antelope species such as common waterbucks, klipspringers, Grant’s gazelles, impalas, and topis. Later in the evening, return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

The park is renowned for its diverse birdlife, including the Egyptian goose and various ducks that migrate from Europe for the winter, making it a paradise for bird watchers. It is also a sanctuary for the white rhino and other wildlife.
Lake Nakuru is one of Kenya’s premier national parks, featuring rocky escarpments, acacia forests, and at least one waterfall, making it stunning year-round. The park is home to black and white rhinos, lions, leopards, hippos, and the endangered Rothschild giraffe. In 2014, rising water levels caused the park’s famous flamingos to relocate, though some had returned by the time of this writing, leaving the lake eerily surrounded by drowned trees.
